Just a few out of the many....
~The Doll Suite:~
"Bliss"Bliss is an angel doll sitting on one of my shelves. This piece is scored for harp, flute and strings.
"Sabrina"Sabrina is a fairy doll sitting in a swing hanging close to my chair. She has lovely long auburn curls, green eyes and wears a lavendar dress trimmed with flowers. This piece is for flute and harp with strings also.
"Debra Dorit"Debra Dorit is a lovely child doll sent to me by my lovely friend Debbie in California. She is named for her and also for my other very dear friend Dorit in Germany. Scored for flute, harp, music box, bells, etc.
"Estela"Estela is one of the prettiest and biggest dolls, with abundant dark curls and big brown eyes, in a white lace frock trimmed with pink rosebuds, and a big ruffly hat, and she carries a parasol. "Estela" is for harp, flute and strings, a rather swift-moving and graceful little piece in triple meter.
"Esmeralda"Wellll....Esme is really just a virtual doll, but hey...she finally influenced me to compose a little piece for her. This one is a playful habanera for string quartet and vibes. It's much shorter and less elaborate than the other doll pieces, but hey, when you're writing for a gal only a little over an inch tall, you gotta think small. Here's hoping it's almost as cute as the one who inspired it....
WaterfallsA water piece, like the title says...for piano, harp, bells, etc.
FountainsAnother water piece...think I need to go to the bathroom now...heheh....
CaravanAnother nocturne, with an exotic feel. For strings, flute, clarinet, bells & chimes.
AuroraYet another impressionistic sky piece, the title referring to the "aurora borealis" or northern lights...Don't know that the piece really has that much to do with the northern lights, but they did inspire....Strings, harp, flute, bells.
MeditationAnother student piece I'd nearly forgotten about and dug up recently, one of my first-ever strictly instrumental pieces, for flute and piano, with a somewhat jazzy feel to it.
VolandoTitle means "flying" in Spanish, and has a Latin lilt to it, meant to suggest a white bird soaring over the shores of Acapulco or wherever (not that I've ever been there or anything;)) Originally for flute and piano, I added strings and I think it sounds better that way. Another nearly forgotten student piece.
ButterfliesAgain, what the title says! For flute, harp and strings.
Water LiliesWell...what the title says! Harp, flute, strings.HeavenTitle refers not to Heaven the city but to heaven the sky. I love the sky in all its lights, darks, colors, moods and shades, and hope this piece is at least somewhat evocative and sufficiently ethereal. For flute, harp, strings and bells.
StarsAnother sky piece, but the night sky this time. Somewhat inspired by the "minimalist" school of musical composition, but definitely isn't a minimalist piece. For piano, harp, bells and some other thingies. Longish, but quick moving.LightAnd yet another...what the title says. Piano, harp, and strings.
Sea of TranquilityA dreamy nocturne in a somewhat Debussy-esque vein, but don't expect it to sound like Debussy;) The title just came to me one day, I'm sure someone else has probably used it as well, it's too good to miss. For strings, flute, and harp.Remembering WaldheimDedicated to my dearest freind in Waldheim, Germany, where I spent one of the loveliest weeks of my life. Flutes, harp, guitar, strings; a sort of nocturne with a little "morning" interlude.
Faery QueenA small fantasy-piece written for no particular reason or occasion, but because the Muse said it must be so;) Snow FairiesA little, short wintery piece. Was fooling around with my keyboard and music software, came up with a tiny motif, kept adding stuff and this is what came out....Harp, musicbox, flute, strings....Might end up composing a little suite of fairy-ish pieces, at this rate!
Lament for SpainA short piece I composed in memory of the March 11, 2004 bombings in Madrid which killed over 200 people. Scored for guitar, strings and tubular bells. This little poem I also wrote, and made a special candle too.......Spain is wounded
like a little mother
clubbed down by a fist of darkness
her sisters stand about
with drooping heads
like helpless willows
as she clutches her lifeless child
in her arms, nothing in its face
but blood and questions.
Three Nocturnes for Flute & Piano: i*n*d*i*g*o* j*a*s*m*i*n*e* l*u*l*l*a*b*y*I wrote these little pieces as student compositions when I was taking flute lessons in college and almost forgot about them...there are more in the suite, actually, which I'll put up if I can ever find them...lol i*n*d*i*g*o* is a dreamy twilit piece, j*a*s*m*i*n*e* has a light Latin lilt to it, and l*u*l*l*a*b*y* is just what the title indicates--my own favorite of the three, I think....Magical Garden of Dreams Picture a moonlit garden full of roses, jasmine, wisteria, and palm trees, a ruined white marble temple, and fountains...a woman sits alone on a bench, awaiting her lover. What is taking him so long? Ah, there he is...he comes and sings her a playful serenade....For harp, percussion, flute, and whatchamacallit....
The Changeling For piano and flute. This piece is based on a long poem by Charlotte Mew. You can read it here if you like. In a nutshell, the Changeling is an elfin creature who comes to live with a mortal family. The family is kind but doesn't understand his need to break away and consort with the creatures of the night, and he doesn't understand why he must go to school, say his prayers, eat all his veggies, clean up his room, etc., etc. Sounds like a pretty good idea for a kid movie, what? Maybe they'll use this as the theme music, LOL.... Ummm...sorry, Felix, I really don't think there'll be a role for a dancing cat....although you never know;)
The Haunted Castle An experimental piece. I decided to try just throwing a bunch of notes together any old way and see how it would turn out. The result was pretty cool, if kinda spooky sounding--hence the title....
Variations on "Muss i Denn" for piano and guitar.
Take your pick! Old German folk tune, made famous by Elvis in the sixties as "Wooden Heart" from his movie G.I. Blues. Another old student composition.
Nightpiece A somewhat jazzy nocturne for flute and piano. Picture a woman alone in a piano bar, trying to drown her sorrows over a failed love affair. As the liquor takes effect, her mind goes back to a happier and more innocent time, when she and her lover went for a romantic boat ride.....
More are likely to be put up later, so stay tuned!
Yes, it's Esme again...isn't she just the cutest thing?;)
