On the Beautiful Blue Danubeby Johann Strauss Jr. For strings, harp, zither and bells. With a lot of flourishes I hope Herr Strauss would approve....
Waltz MedleyA medley of two well-known waltzes: "Over the Waves" by Juventino Rosas and "Westphalia Waltz"--composer unknown. Set for fiddles as originally written, along with cello and zither and bass and music box. If I'm not mistaken, these waltzes originated in Texas ("Westphalia" referring to Westphalia, Texas and not Westphalia in Germany.) The tune of "Over the Waves" was used in the song "Loveliest Night of the Year" from the movie The Great Caruso starring Mario Lanza. "Westphalia Waltz" hasn't been set to words that I know of; it just has one of the sweetest melodies this side of heaven.:)
All Through the NightThe lovely well-known Welsh traditional folksong, for flute, harp and strings.
Der RosenkavalierBy Richard Strauss. The renowned waltz suite from the opera of the same title. Scored for piano, harp, zither, chimes, bells, and strings. You won't be able to take your ears off it!
The Ash GroveThe famous old Welsh tune....
Malaguenaby Isaac Albeniz. The OTHER Malaguena! but no less Spanish than the better-known Lecuona one below. Originally for piano, transcribed here for harp and viola.
Music ForeverTraditional German. The tune you hear on the homepage; presented here just because someone asked for it. For music box, harp and zither.
Hava NagilaFamous Israeli harvest-dance tune, starting out slow and building up to a frenzied finish....way cool, for clarinet, accordion, piano, and strings.
Those Endearing Young CharmsComposer Unknown, words by Thomas Moore. Without a doubt the sweetest love-song ever written. I've made a new version here because I didn't think my old one really did it justice. Scored for harp, guitar, and strings.
Kitten on the Keysby Zez Confrey. The famous piano rag, where we find the kitten not only on the keys but on guitar strings, vibes, chimes, music box...that kitty is really getting around!
Roses from the South
by Johann Strauss, Jr. Arranged for zithers, harp, vibes, guitar, and small orchestra. My favorite of all Strauss waltzes....maybe cuz I'm a RoZ and I'm from the South? LOL or cuz it's delicious as a freshly baked, cream-filled Viennese pastry and makes me wanna daaaaannnnnnce...LOL)
La Paloma
by S. Yradier. Scored for piano, vibes, trumpet, and violins. Gotta love it......
Habanera
Supposedly by George Bizet, but it's also by S. Yradier--or so I read--for his opera Carmen. Scored for guitars, viola, harp, and percussion. Here's a pretty little lady who will dance for you while you listen.... Hey, it might not be a habanera but it does have that certain je ne sais quoi, no?;)
O Sole Mio
by Luigi da Capua. Ah, where's Luciano Pavarotti when you really need him? Scored for harp and string quartet.
Amapola
by Joseph LaCalle. Romantic little piece with a Latin lilt, old-timers might recognize it as a big-band song, "Pretty Little Poppy." Scored for guitars, brass, vibes, and violin.
Malagueñaby Ernesto Lecuona. Did somebody mention Latin songs? For harp, guitars, violins, and percussion....
Barcarolle
by Jacques Offenbach. You know this one....scored here for piano, harp, and strings with a few little flourishes of my own...ahem.......(I think the composer would have approved;))
Sabre Danceby Aram Khatchaturian. A wonderful, noisy, rousing piece...totally irresistible.....so much so, that Esme had to put on her gypsy costume to dance to this one....just look at her go!
For guitars, violins, and balalaika....well, not REALLY a balalaika since this thingy I'm using doesn't have such an instrumental patch, but I managed a combination of instruments to make it sound kinda like one....no no no, not telling;)
Cradle Song by Franz Schubert. A sweet lullaby for harp and music box. Play it for your baby...or for yourself if you need a rest after the Sabre Dance....
"Die Lorelei/The Lorelei" Composer unknown, words by Heinrich Heine. Old German song about the siren who has nothing better to do than sit on the cliffs above the Rhine combing her long golden hair all day and luring boaters to their deaths on the rocks...the ultimate men-basher. For harp and music box.
"Down in the Valley"Traditional American folksong. "Down in the valley/the valley so low,/hang your head over/hear the wind blow...." For guitars, dulcimer, banjo, and double bass. Very pretty.....
